Symptom
Thermador oven not heating
An oven that lights up, sets a temperature and never gets there — or does nothing at all. On a double oven the code tells you which cavity before anyone opens anything.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The cavity temperature sensor
Reading open, so the control has no temperature to work from and will not heat. Published as its own condition, per cavity.
Oven element and sensor repair from $185 -
A bake or broil element
Elements fail open. The tell is an oven that heats slowly or only from one direction rather than one that is stone cold.
Oven element and sensor repair from $185 -
The control module
The board that actually switches the elements. It tests its own memory at start-up and publishes the result, which is what separates it from guessing.
Control board replacement from $340 -
A mismatched module after earlier work
A replacement board that was never given its option code refuses to run and reports it. That is a setting rather than a part, and it looks exactly like a bad new board.

Supply, on a double oven
These draw on two legs. Losing one leaves lights and a panel that work and an oven that will not heat — which is confusing until it is measured.
In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Which cavity, and does the other work?
Write it down before you call. It halves the diagnosis and it changes what we bring.
-
02
Photograph the code
Including the leading digit, which is the cavity. Then cut the power for five minutes — but photograph it first, because clearing loses it.
-
03
Listen for the fan
The cooling fan should be audible when the oven is heating. Silence there points somewhere quite different from a dead element.
-
04
Check the breaker properly
Off and fully on again rather than looking at it. A double-pole breaker can drop one leg and still look set.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
Two shortcuts
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem, and the model number says which parts to bring. Either one shortens the visit; both together usually settle it.
If the display is showing something
- E309 Control program memory
- E310 Control data memory
- E101 Cavity sensor open
- E104 Cavity sensor shorted

About Thermador oven not heating
The fastest diagnosis is the code
On this make the code numbering tells you the cavity: E1xx is the upper, E2xx the lower. If only one cavity has stopped, this is one repair rather than two — and the working cavity proves the controls and the supply are alive.
The cavity is in the number
Double and triple ovens on this make publish paired codes: E101 and E201 are the same condition in the upper and lower cavity, and so are E104/E204, E115/E215 and E118/E218. Before anyone opens anything, the number has already told you which oven you are talking about — and whether the one you actually use is affected.
Sensor or element
They fail differently and the symptom tells you which. A sensor reading open leaves the control with no temperature at all, so it will not heat; an element that has failed open still lets the oven warm slowly or unevenly, usually from one direction. Both are ordinary repairs, and the code narrows it before a technician arrives.

Questions about thermador oven not heating
Only my top oven has stopped.
Then the code will begin E1 and the lower cavity is untouched. They share a control module but not their elements or sensors, so this is normally a single contained repair.
The panel works fine, so surely it is not electrical?
The panel runs on a different supply from the elements. On a double oven fed by two legs, losing one leaves the display perfectly happy and the oven cold — which is why the breaker gets checked properly rather than looked at.
It shows E000 after somebody replaced a board.
That is a mismatched module: a new board that has not been told which model it is in. It is set from the data plate in service mode, and it is the whole repair.
