What we repair

Thermador builds a whole kitchen. We work on all of it.

Ten appliance types, and the shape of the range is unusual: professional cooking at one end and built-in refrigeration columns at the other, with no laundry at all. Start with whichever is misbehaving — several of these pages begin by explaining that the behavior people call a failure is the appliance working as designed.

  • A stainless professional-style gas range with heavy cast-iron grates, set between white cabinets under a hood
    Professional · 30" 36" 48" 60"

    Professional ranges

The appliance the brand is built around. A Professional range is two machines sharing a cabinet — a cooktop with star burners or an induction surface on top, and an oven underneath — and the two fail in completely different ways. Knowing which half you are describing shortens the visit before anybody arrives.

    • A burner that clicks and will not light
    • The oven not reaching or holding temperature
    • The griddle heating unevenly across the plate
    Range repair
  • Two pans simmering on a black induction cooktop set into a wooden island
Freedom Induction · Masterpiece · Star burner

    Cooktops & rangetops

Freedom induction is this brand's own idea: one continuous glass surface that finds the pans rather than four printed rings to line them up with. It changes what goes wrong and what the complaint sounds like — most of what we are called out for on these is the surface protecting itself, and it is usually right to.

    • A zone switching itself off mid-cook
    • The surface not recognizing a pan
    • Controls locked or answering a wet cloth
    Cooktop repair
  • A built-in grill module in a professional cooking deck: a heavy cast grate over a long burner, the flame visible between the bars, a light haze rising, dark stainless surround and near-black cabinetry beyond in cool midnight light.
Grill module · Professional range · Rangetop · Legacy outdoor

    Grills & grill modules

The grill module that drops into a Professional range or rangetop, and the outdoor grills this maker used to build. Both are a burner under a heavy grate rather than a burner under a pan, and that changes what fails: the grate, what falls through it, the igniter that sits in the line of everything that falls through it, and a burner that has to run hot for an hour without complaint.

    • A grill burner that lights and then goes out under load
    • Uneven searing across the grate
    • An igniter in the one place everything drips on
    Grill repair
  • A black double wall oven built into a wood column, the lower door standing open
    Masterpiece · Professional · Steam · Speed

    Wall ovens & steam ovens

Built in at eye level, often two cavities in one cabinet, and increasingly one of the two is a steam oven with a water circuit of its own. "The oven is broken" almost always means one cavity of the pair, and which one narrows the job considerably.

    • Not heating or not holding temperature
    • The touch panel unresponsive after a long cycle
    • The door locked after a self-clean
    Oven repair
  • An open dishwasher loaded with clean crockery and mugs, standing open in a home kitchen
    Masterpiece · Star-Sapphire · Crystal Dry

    Dishwashers

Quiet, panel-ready, and dried by a mineral chamber rather than a heating element. Two of the commonest complaints about these machines are the design working exactly as intended; the third is a filter nobody has taken out in a year.

    • Water standing in the tub after a cycle
    • Plastics coming out wet
    • The leak protection tripping and the machine refusing to run
    Dishwasher repair
  • A refrigerator standing open, both sides stocked with produce, dairy and cold cuts
    Freedom columns · French door · Under-counter

    Built-in refrigerators & columns

A Freedom column is one cabinet holding one temperature — all refrigerator, no freezer in it — usually installed beside a freezer column as a matched pair behind panels that look like joinery. That makes the diagnosis cleaner and the access harder.

    • Not holding temperature
    • Frost or condensation inside the cabinet
    • A door that no longer seals against its panel
    Refrigerator repair
  • An open freezer drawer packed with bagged frozen fruit and vegetables
    Freedom columns · 18" 24" 30" 36"

    Freezer columns

The other half of the pair, and the cabinet the ice maker lives in. A freezer column that is losing temperature announces itself long before the food is at risk — frost patterns change, the compressor runs longer, and the ice slows down first.

    • Not holding temperature, with the refrigerator column fine
    • Heavy frost building on one wall rather than evenly
    • Ice production slowing down or stopping altogether
    Freezer repair
  • Ice cubes filling the bin below two ice trays inside a freezer
    Inside the freezer column

    Ice makers

There is no standalone ice machine on this brand. The ice maker is a module inside a freezer column, fed by a water line run through the cabinetry — so this page is about that module and the water reaching it, not about an undercounter machine behind a bar.

    • No ice at all, in a freezer that is holding temperature
    • Hollow, small or cloudy cubes from a full mold
    • Ice that has taken on a taste or a smell
    Ice maker repair
  • An undercounter wine cabinet with two glass doors and wooden racks, built into a stone-topped island
    Under-counter · Glass door · Two zones

    Wine reserves

An undercounter reserve with a glass door and two temperature zones, built under a worktop rather than standing in a run. The glass door is a working part of the cabinet rather than a window, and a surprising share of what goes wrong is about it.

    • Temperature drifting or swinging between zones
    • Condensation on the inside of the glass
    • A compressor that runs and runs
    Wine cooler repair
  • A wall-mounted stainless range hood above a black gas cooktop in a white kitchen
    Pull-out · Chimney · Island · Downdraft

    Range hoods & ventilation

Paired to the cooktop below it and, on the newer kitchens, talking to it — a hood that will not follow the burner is a connection question rather than a broken fan. Pull-out hoods add a mechanism that fixed ones do not have.

    • The fan not starting or running at one speed
    • The light out while the fan works
    • A hood that no longer follows the cooktop
    Range hood repair

South Florida

The climate is part of the diagnosis.

  • Hard water. These dishwashers publish a code for scale in the heat pump. Acting on it is a service; ignoring it for a year reaches the drying chamber, which is the expensive assembly.
  • Year-round heat. Column condensers run hard for more months here than almost anywhere, and induction electronics overheat under a ventilation gap somebody filled with a drawer.
  • Coastal salt air. Near the water it reaches star burner caps, electrodes and the damper on the far end of a remote blower duct — which fails silently.
  • Outages and surges. Storm season brings a run of electronics codes, and it is also when a column goes dark on low voltage. Five minutes genuinely off at the breaker clears a fair share of the rest.
  • Built into joinery. Panel-ready columns and 48-inch ranges are fitted to the cabinetry rather than pushed into a gap, and getting to the repair is often longer than the repair.

Error codes

Half of what this brand tells you is not a number.

Thermador publishes what its cooking and dishwashing codes mean, which is genuinely useful. What is easy to miss is that two large parts of its range say things a different way: a Professional wall oven with no display blinks its code out on three lights, and the refrigeration columns publish no codes at all.

One oven condition, three ways to see it

The middle one is not a warning light. The left LED blinks the first digit, the middle one the second, the right one the third; then all three light together for a second and it repeats. One blink, one blink, five blinks is E115 — the same condition, the same page on this site, and the same repair as on an oven that spells it out.

Three ways this equipment speaks

  • E24 A number on a display — dishwashers, induction, and the newer ovens
  • 1·0·6 Three blinking lights — the Professional wall ovens with no display. Count them and you have the code
  • Alarm No code at all — the refrigeration columns, which alarm, flash a symbol, or run a self-test instead

Where the codes live, by appliance

Dishwashers 23 conditions — draining, leak protection, scale, the Crystal Dry chamber and the door
Wall ovens 26, including the legacy Professional table that was never put on the maker's website
Cooktops Mostly protections — zone overheat, panel lock, a power limit, and a voltage code about your building
Refrigeration None published. Five alarms and signals stand in their place, and this site decodes them
Ventilation One: the link between the hood and the cooktop, which is what stops a hood coming on by itself
Connectivity 19 about the app, the phone and the router. Almost none of them are the appliance

There is no laundry row because this maker sells no laundry in the US. If a page anywhere tells you otherwise about this brand, it is describing a different one.

87 conditions covering 164 published labels and signals — from the manufacturer's support pages, its service manuals, and the guides that ship inside the appliance. Where a machine has no display, the blinking lights are the code, and we can read them.

No code and no lights — just an appliance behaving oddly? That is what the symptom pages are for. Four of them exist mainly to tell you that nothing is wrong.

How a visit goes

From your first call to the invoice, nothing is a surprise.

  1. 01

    Intake

Tell us what the appliance is doing, the model and how it is built in. Cannot find the model number? We will tell you exactly where Thermador puts it on your machine.

  2. 02

    Diagnosis

The code is read — or the blinks counted, or the column self-tested — and the condition reproduced rather than assumed. The free causes get checked in front of you first.

  3. 03

    Scope in writing

You see the work and the price before anything is opened, and you approve it first. On panel-ready equipment we say what has to come off before it does.

  4. 04

    Repair and verify

A full cycle run and watched before we leave, panels re-hung to the line of your cabinets, and our workmanship covered by warranty.

What it costs

What these repairs usually cost in South Florida.

We price by the job, because on a badge that covers both cold and cooking the same complaint has two different answers. Every figure is a starting point; an exact number over the phone, sight unseen, is a guess.

Range hood repair

from $135

The least expensive appliance here, and often just the filters.

Dishwasher drain repair

from $155

A good share of these end at the filter, which costs the visit and nothing else.

Oven element or sensor

from $185

On a double oven the code says which cavity before anyone opens anything.

Professional range repair

from $210

Two appliances on one chassis, so the first question is which half stopped.

Crystal Dry repair

from $245

A mineral chamber rather than an element, which is why it costs more than drying usually does.

Sealed system repair

from $1,200

The one figure here that does not follow the brand. It is built-in refrigeration, and it is physics.

Diagnostic visit from $95, credited toward the repair when you go ahead. Every figure above is a starting point for this equipment in South Florida — the model, the access and the part move it. The exact cost is confirmed after an on-site diagnostic, never over the phone.

Questions

Straight answers

Are you authorized by Thermador?

No, and we will not claim otherwise. We are an independent repair company. Authorization is a commercial relationship with the manufacturer and mainly matters for in-warranty claims. Out of warranty, what matters is whether the technician knows the equipment, can source OEM parts, and stands behind the work.

My refrigerator column has no error code, just an alarm. Is that normal?

Yes. Thermador publishes no error codes for its refrigeration at all — the pages where they would live do not exist. A column tells you things another way: the temperature flashing with an alarm symbol, a door signal, a flashing water filter symbol, or a display that goes dark on low voltage. Press ALARM and it shows the highest temperature the cabinet reached, once. That number is worth reading before you clear it.

My oven is blinking lights instead of showing a code.

On the Professional wall ovens without a display, that is the code. Three lights blink out its digits from left to right, then all three come on together for a second. Count each group and you have the number — one, one, five is E115 — and every one of those codes has a page on this site.

Do you use genuine Thermador parts?

OEM parts are ordered against your model number as standard. Where a good-quality equivalent exists and would save you money, we price both and tell you which is going in, so the choice stays yours.

How long does a repair take?

The diagnosis usually takes under an hour. Whether we finish the same day depends on the part: drains, filters, seals and electrodes are usually same-visit, while a board ordered against a model number takes a few days. Sealed-system work on a refrigeration column is a day rather than an hour.

My appliances have cabinet panels on them. Does that complicate things?

It adds time rather than difficulty, and it is the normal case on this equipment. The panel comes off and goes back on aligned to the line of your cabinets — that is part of the job rather than an extra, and we say what has to come off before it does.

What warranty do you give?

A warranty on our workmanship — the labor we performed. Parts carry their own manufacturer warranty. If your appliance is still in warranty, that claim goes through the manufacturer's own network rather than through us.
