Symptom
Thermador dishwasher will not start
A machine with lights on that will not run, or one that shows nothing at all. On this platform a machine that refuses to start is usually protecting itself, and the code says which protection.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The anti-flood lockout
Water in the base pan stops the machine before it starts. It is the commonest reason one of these will not run and it is a protection rather than a failure.
Dishwasher leak repair from $175 -
The door not latching
A panelled door that has settled, or a latch that no longer closes squarely. The machine will not start with a door it cannot confirm is shut, and there is a published condition for the sensor.
Door seal and hinge repair from $165 -
No water arriving
A closed shut-off valve, a kinked line or low pressure. The machine starts, waits, and stops with a supply code rather than running dry.
Dishwasher drain repair from $155 -
Low supply voltage
Published as its own condition. Not a problem in the machine, and replacing parts will not change it.
-
Power, or the board
A dead panel is the outlet, the breaker or the cabinet switch far more often than it is electronics — and those are free to check.
Control board replacement from $340
In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Is the panel alive at all?
Lights or no lights. That one observation decides whether you are looking at a protection or at power, and they have nothing in common.
-
02
Push the door properly shut
Firmly, at the handle. A panelled door that has dropped needs more of a push than it used to, and that is the tell.
-
03
Check the shut-off valve and the breaker
Both take a minute. The switch in the cabinet under the sink catches people out more often than anything electronic in the machine.
-
04
Five minutes genuinely off at the breaker
Not standby. It clears a real share of these, and a code that survives it is a code that means something.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
Two shortcuts
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem, and the model number says which parts to bring. Either one shortens the visit; both together usually settle it.

About Thermador dishwasher will not start
The fastest diagnosis is the code
Note whether the panel is alive. Lights on and no cycle is a protection or a door switch, and the code names which. A completely dead panel is supply — the breaker, the outlet under the sink, or the switch somebody fitted in the cabinet years ago.
A machine that refuses to start is usually right
Water in the base pan, a door it cannot confirm is closed, no supply, or voltage below what it will run on: each of those stops the machine on purpose, and each is published as its own condition. Reading the code is the whole diagnosis, and on most of these the answer is something in the kitchen rather than something inside the appliance.
The one that is not the appliance at all
Low supply voltage. In a building fed 208V from a three-phase supply, equipment expecting 240V says so and stops. That is an electrician's call and no part in the dishwasher will change it — which is worth knowing before anyone quotes you for a board.

Questions about thermador dishwasher will not start
The lights come on but nothing happens when I press start.
Almost always a protection or the door. Look for a code first — this platform tells you which one — and try pushing the door firmly closed before anything else.
It is completely dead.
Then it is power. Breaker, the outlet under the sink, and the switch in the cabinet that half of these are wired through. Electronics come after all three, not before.
It started once after I turned the power off and on.
Then something was protecting itself and cleared. Worth noting what it showed before you cut the power, because it will come back if the cause is still there.
