Symptom
Thermador dishwasher not draining
Water standing in the bottom of the tub after a cycle. Two of the five causes come out by hand without tools, which makes this the symptom most worth five minutes before booking anything.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The filter in the floor of the tub
It unscrews by hand. Food, seeds and grease build a mat across it and the machine cannot pull water through. The single most common answer on this page.

The drain pump cover, loose or blocked
Beside the filter, lifts straight out. A cover not clicked fully back after a previous clean produces exactly the same symptom as a blocked one.
Dishwasher drain repair from $155 -
The hose, the high loop or the air gap
Kinked behind the machine, or an air gap on the counter packed with debris. Common after a machine has been pulled out and pushed back.
Dishwasher drain repair from $155 -
A new disposal with the plug still in it
If the dishwasher has never drained since a disposal was fitted, this is almost certainly it. The knockout plug has to be punched out and frequently is not.
Installation from $195 -
The drain pump itself
Jammed or failed. A pump that hums without moving water is usually jammed, which is a clean rather than a part.

In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Bail out the standing water
A cup and a towel. You cannot see anything under three inches of water and you cannot open the pump cover without emptying it first.
-
02
Twist out the filter
It comes out by hand. Rinse it under the faucet with a soft brush. Look at what came off it — that is your answer as often as not.
-
03
Lift the drain pump cover
Beside the filter. Clear anything in there and click the cover firmly back until it seats. A cover left proud stops the machine draining.
-
04
Then run a cycle and watch
If it drains, you are finished. If it does not, photograph the code and book — you have already ruled out the two cheapest causes.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
Two shortcuts
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem, and the model number says which parts to bring. Either one shortens the visit; both together usually settle it.
If the display is showing something
Photograph it before it clears — codes do not wait. Search the full code list
If there is no code at all
The data plate is inside the cabinet, upper left wall or behind the grille. All models

About Thermador dishwasher not draining
The fastest diagnosis is the code
This condition is published under several labels depending on how old the machine is — E24 and E25 on older units, E6102 and E61-03 on newer ones. They mean the same thing and they have the same list of causes, four of which are outside the appliance.
What it usually turns out to be
- The filter. Unscrews by hand, and the most common single answer on this page
- The drain pump cover, blocked or simply not clicked back after somebody cleaned it
- The hose or the air gap, kinked or packed with debris
- A disposal knockout plug never punched out — an installation problem rather than a repair
- The pump, jammed or failed, which is the only one on this list that needs us
Several names for one condition
The manufacturer has labeled this differently across generations, and all of them are in South Florida kitchens: two-digit codes in the twenties on older machines, and four-digit E61 labels on newer ones. They are the same condition with the same causes, and typing any of them into the code archive here lands on the same page.

Questions about thermador dishwasher not draining
Is it safe to keep using it?
Not really worth it. Water sitting in the tub between cycles turns stale within a day or two, and a machine that cannot drain is not rinsing properly either.
It drains slowly rather than not at all.
Same causes, caught earlier — and cheaper. Slow draining is the filter or the hose most of the time, and it is a better moment to look than after it stops.
Does the cabinet panel make this more expensive?
Only if the pump is involved. Everything you can reach from inside the tub is the same job on any machine; it is getting the machine out from behind a panel that adds the time.
