How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Find the blower

On this equipment it may be in the hood, in the ceiling, or outside the building. Half the diagnosis is knowing which, and it decides everything about the job.

  2. 02

    Controls or motor

A hood that does nothing at all is usually supply or the control board; one that runs on some speeds is the speed control.

  3. 03

    Downdrafts are mechanisms

The lift is a motor and a track, and it fails in ways a fan never does. It is a different repair from the ventilation itself.

  4. 04

Check the link to the cooktop

These talk to each other, so a hood that will not come on automatically may be a communication condition rather than a hood problem.

Paired to the cooktop below it and, on the newer kitchens, talking to it — a hood that will not follow the burner is a connection question rather than a broken fan. Pull-out hoods add a mechanism that fixed ones do not have.

    • The light out while the fan works

About Thermador range hood repair

Where the blower actually is

Ventilation on this equipment comes in three arrangements: the blower inside the hood, an inline blower in the ceiling run, and a remote blower outside the building. A hood that is silent may have a perfectly good control and a blower thirty feet away with no power. Establishing which arrangement you have is most of the diagnosis, and it is worth knowing before anybody quotes.

Downdrafts are a different appliance

A downdraft has a lift mechanism as well as ventilation — a motor, a track and a control that knows where it is. It fails in ways a wall hood cannot, and it is repaired as a mechanism rather than as a fan.

What decides the figure

Where the blower is, and whether it is the motor, the speed control or the board. This is the least expensive appliance on the site and the page says so.

Questions about thermador range hood repair

The hood does nothing at all.

Check the breaker and, on a remote blower, whether the blower itself has power — it is often on its own supply in the ceiling or outside. After that it is the control board, which is the usual answer on a hood with no life in it.

It runs, but not on high.

That is the speed control rather than the motor, and it is the cheaper of the two. Worth mentioning on the phone because it changes what we bring.

My hood used to come on by itself with the cooktop and has stopped.

They are linked, and the link has a published condition of its own. The hood and the cooktop are usually both fine — what has gone is the connection between them.
